2023 Spring Giving Plate Updates

1st Street -
Distribution Center

  • I, Ranae, have been waiting so long to share this update on our 1st Street renovation project. I have joked with many friends lately that I thought I learned a long time ago not to pray for patience, but I must have accidentally prayed that prayer, as I have been "fortunate" to learn it anew in the last few years when it comes to this building and the commercial construction process.

But this project is in full swing now, and looks very different from before. We are thrilled to have progress happening and excited to see the space and vision coming to life! Click on the link below for a walk-through

Community Store

  • Community Store update! Ekkk...this is an exciting one! We have located our future Community Store and are thrilled to share the details with you. We will take over the old Xcel Fitness space in the Reed Market Plaza at 61470 S. Hwy 97, Bend. This 6,000+ square foot space will give us plenty of room to create a warm and hospitable space for our guests to come and shop at no cost for the food they need. Our Kid's Korner Store will be a fun and welcoming space for kids to have their own shopping experience and a place to play. We have so many fun and exciting ideas of what we will do in our new store model and ways we will reimagine how we come alongside our struggling neighbors next door with greater compassion and care.

Kid’s Korner
Mobile Pantry

  • This announcement feels special to us as it is an opportunity that came to us quickly, but now that we are stepping towards it, we really can't imagine not doing this or having it part of our program.

Our Kid's Korner program is a very unique and special program that provides children with their own food, and soon we will be able to get back to letting them have their own shopping experience again where they can pick the food they want when we open our doors in our new Community Store. But for now, we are excited to share that we are taking Kid's Korner to the streets with a Kid's Korner Mobile Pantry!

This "vintage" little bus needs some TLC before we can get it on the road, but our goal is to have that happen this summer. We are exploring the best locations to have it go four Saturdays each month, and are looking at the following communities of La Pine, Redmond, Terrebonne, Prineville, Warm Springs, and Madras.

We are working out the details of what it will all look like, but we are confident this will be a special program for children in our rural communities here in Central Oregon.

If you want to help us make this happen, we are looking for donations to help get the bus mechanically and aesthetically ready for the road and the kids. We want to transform the inside of the bus into a fun space for the kids to walk into and pick out the food they want.

  • Are you interested in sponsoring this Kid's Korner Mobile Pantry? We are looking for five businesses that can donate $2,500. In exchange for that donation to help us launch this mobile pantry, we will place sponsor logos on the back of the bus for the community to see who has made this possible, as well as present your business with a plaque you can display showing your clients the way you are investing into feeding children in Central Oregon.

Thank you to our sponsors: The Peaks 360, Pahlisch Homes, Roger & Priscilla Schultz Family Foundation, and Sisters Ace Hardware.

Thanks for standing with us so we can be there for so many children in our region. Did you know that children are a special focus for us at The Giving Plate, and kids under 18 make up 68% of those we serve? Together, we are ensuring no child goes hungry in Central Oregon.

“Do you have questions about our 1st Street building and our Community Store? I would love to share with you what has brought us to where we are today with our building project and why we are confident in our approach to tackling the growing food insecurity issue for our Central Oregon neighbors.

I appreciate your support. We can’t do what we do for our community without you! ”
